Knee, Shoulder and Trigger Point Injections
A TPI (trigger point injection) is commonly used in pain management using a shot injection to treat muscle pain. It is given at a trigger point or a knot in the muscle that does not relax or can be very sensitive. When your physician applies pressure to a trigger point on a persons body, they will feel pain on that exact point, but may also feel pain on another location of their body. Trigger points can be caused by daily strenuous activity, an injury, or simply certain body mechanics.
This shot treatment contains a long-acting pain reliever that is sometimes mixed with a steroid. This injection can help relieve muscle spasm and feelings of tightness, and may also allow the patient to move and exercise more easily. For more information about TPI and if it may be right for you, please consult with your primary care provider
